You can see people swimming in the lake and get limited views of the mountains. A better spot was along the A66 at the Bassenthwaite nature reserve. .

We stopped in a lay-by one evening and took the attached photos, absolutely stunning views. We were driving along, and seeing the lake, pulled into the lay-by Woodend Browparked free for two hours. We brought our picnic blanket and read for a couple of hours, soaking up the scenery and taking photos, hardly anyone there!

Waked along the footpath along the north Eastern perimeter, its very boggy, especially the further south east you get. Would wear wellies if attempting it, you have been warned.
Also styles are not dog friendly, need to lift them over. There are much more pleasant walks so overall would avoid. River trip.
We went on a river trip and canoed into this lake. What a place to visit, such a lovely lake which was clean enough to swim in, it is one of the shallower lake so much warmer.
